We kick off the month of August with a ride to Tierney’s Café and Tavern in Lewisville. This is not a particularly easy place to find. I would have never dined here had it not been for the Chapter. Now my family and I eat here fairly regularly. The food is great, and gets fantastic reviews. My favorite dish is the jalapeno-breaded chicken - it’s superb! For those who can’t read the menu or don’t know the story.. A brief history of the building: The house (now restaurant) located at 208 E. Main St. was built as a home by Dr. J.W. Kennedy in 1885. Legend has it, Dr. Kennedy would periodically be blindfolded, kidnapped and taken to the hideout of Bonnie and Clyde (who used to camp out by what is now Lake Lewisville) to provide them medical care. That is one of many intriguing and controversial stories about “celebrity criminals” Bonnie & Clyde who were both born in Texas and spent time in this area. They were killed in the early 30’s in Bienville Parish, Louisiana by a posse that included four Texas officers. About that same time members of the Barrow Gang (minus its infamous leaders, Bonnie & Clyde, who had visited town earlier in the year) robbed the First National Bank of Lewisville. I’d say this establishment suits the outlaws in out Chapter well! Tierney’s has a great patio, and bar.
